Nayara Springs was a beautiful resort to start off our trip to Costa Rica. With amazing views of Arenal Volcano, lots of good food, plenty of pools and activities, and a great landscape you really don’t ever have to leave if you don’t want to. However, with the wonderful Arenal Volcano National Park so close, you definitely should make an effort to get out and explore while you’re there.
tl;dr: The hotel is amazing and you should definitely check it out. It's not cheap, but well worth the price if you can make it work with your budget. See TripAdvisor Reviews.
The hotel is set on a hillside, so get ready for some steep climbs or make sure to use the golf cart service to get around. We actually found a friend on our golf cart seat the first night when we arrived.
The property is all paths that look like this with wonderful, lush greenery like this.
The room was definitely the highlight of the resort for us. It was a very large room with everything you need to make your relaxing vacation in Costa Rica amazing.
I’ll also add that the AC in the room worked extremely well and we were never hot. I also don’t think we saw a single bug in the room, which is particularly impressive given the surroundings.
We ended up eating several meals at the hotel, mostly out of convenience, but they were all actually pretty good. There’s several different restaurants which helps to make for a better variety of options. My biggest complaint was that they made us make a reservation for dinner every night. Often we just called the night of and were still able to get in, but there was one night where we had a choose a different restaurant due to reservations and timing.
There was also room service available. One of our favorite things to do was to get the breakfast served to the room (which is included in the rate) and eat a fresh breakfast in the room. They had a card you could just fill out and hang on the door to place your order and set your delivery time. It was a great treat in the morning.
The hotel is between La Fortuna and Arenal Volcano National Park. For that area, it is really great. The one negative thing I would say is that it’s a little out of town, so there’s not much food nearby other than the food at the hotel. This is only a minor inconvenience, though, since the food was actually pretty good and there were plenty of options.
i actually worked for a day while we were here and was able to do video and audio calls without any problems. We also streamed several shows on Netflix and generally had a great experience with it. It’s not going to blow you away if you’re uploading video content or anything, but for general use it was fairly reliable and perfectly adequate speeds.
Overall the service was amazing. From our welcome at the hotel with a welcome drink and cold towel, to the golf cart services that drove us around the hotel, to the restaurant servers, to the house keeping staff I don’t think we had a single bad interaction. If I had a critique at all, it’s that some of the meals were a little slow, but honestly it just gave us more time to Pura Vida.
Overall this hotel was amazing. It’s definitely a resort with all that this entails, but if that’s the Costa Rican vacation you’re looking for you can’t go wrong here. The rooms are great and very quiet, there are plenty of pools and amenities to ensure you have time to enjoy them without feeling overly crowded, and the food is actually reasonably good and with many options. If this place won’t break your budget I’d definitely recommend it for a splurge trip!
